FRIENDS and FELLOW TRAVELERS

Akire Bubar
Akire Bubar, a Philadelphia-based singer/songwriter, is a terrific musician and one of my best friends. I was thrilled when she asked me to do the artwork for her CD, The Arms of the Sun. Visit her site to hear her songs, see when she might be touring near you, and buy a CD. www.akire.com

Ceila White
Celia White is a poet and librarian currently living in San Francisco. Her site is jam-packed with writing, photos, links and insight. An online diary, Warm Wine, is a particular highlight. Writers can also find a growing list of prompts, games and exercises to keep those chops up! www.celiathepoet.org

PRINT and ONLINE PUBLICATIONS

The Bitter Oleander

The Bitter Oleander is an international literary journal based in upstate New York. Concentrating on evocative, linguistically innovative, imaginitive work, this magazine and its attendant press are publishing some of the best poetry out there. Their site includes a great deal of information about the press, magazine and annual poetry contest. www.bitteroleander.comm

Lilliput Review
This is the site for the unique little magazine, Lilliput Review. It really is little-- about 3 inches square, and it prints only poems under ten lines. Every issue is a treasure chest. http://members.tripod.com/donw714/lillieindex.html

Bridge
Upstart Chicago litmag. Well-designed, good-looking and rather interesting. www.bridgemagazine.org

Chicago Reader
Chicago's best free weekly. Online version. www.chicagoreader.com

Rain Taxi Review of Books
Rain Taxi Review of Books is a magazine/webzine produced in Minneapolis. It offers thoughtful and sometimes contentious commentary on the ever-changing landscape of print. The essays and reviews challenge the academic stranglehold on commentary, with a refreshing amount of space and attention devoted to small-press and independent poetry books. I rely on Rain Taxi. www.raintaxi.com

The American Journal of Print
The American Journal of Print is a much-needed forum for"passionate geekery." It carries essays and fiction about esoteric and obscure things we love and research, secretly, quietly, often in solitude. I took home the first issue when I saw that it carried an article on pneumatic tube delivery and transit systems, and one on the search for the giant squid, both topics I adore. Handsome and simple, there's nothing quite like AJoP. www.ajprint.net

LUNGFULL!MAGAZINE
Lungfull! magazine! The only literary magazine in America that prints contributors' rough drafts! Fun fun fun, plus they have a puzzle. Genial, tongue-in-cheek, free stickers, fantabulous waterproof cover, but they are liable to print your correspondence with them as well, so be warned. Nice site. http://users.rcn.com/lungfull/

Engrish.com
While I almost hate to uncover this gem of a site, I feel it's almost a civic duty. Like to laugh? Get a kick out of "found poetry?" Go here. Japan seems to have a more integrated relationship with poetry than the US does. It's in everything there--even snack food. www.engrish.com
