Mike Check!

Yesterday I joined a group of fellow poets for the first Human Micropoem event in support ofOccupy Chicago. The idea is a variation of the Human Microphone method of passing important information along to large groups of people without the use of electronic or mechanical amplification.  To be a human microphone, you listen and speak--listen to the information spoken by the Microphones ahead of you, and repeat the information in your strongest voice for the people behind you.  The person or people beginning the process calls out, "Mike check!

Garfield Park Conservatory Quick Update: Benefit at Lincoln Hall Aug. 18!

Some areas of the Conservatory have reopened to the public, and repairs are slowly underway.  Funds are still being raised to help pay the insurance deductible, so donations are still a good way to help.  But if you really want to have some fun at a great Chicago event that will also help the Conservatory, get your tickets now!  Here's the place to be and how to do it.  Fun raffle, great bands, and mac-n-cheese!

Help the Garfield Park Conservatory

When I posted the link to the Conservatory yesterday, I was unaware of the desperate situation they are currently in.  In the aftermath of the severe storm that swept through the area on June 30--bringing hail of golf-ball size and gusts to over 90mph--the Conservatory sustained massive and catastrophic damage to its roofs and gardens.  The plant and animal life within the Conservatory rooms and greenhouses are in great danger and the facility itself is heartbreakingly imperiled.

albus cavus on tour

The collage workshop I did in DC in March was organized by Albus Cavus, a national organization dedicated to arts activism and arts education for kids.  They have branches in many cities, but this summer they are also going "on tour," bringing mural-painting workshops to various cities.  Follow their bloghere, and join them if you can!  Here's the skinny (minus photo):

Albus Cavus is having an excellent time touring with Applegate Farms this summer promoting healthy lifestyle and healthy communities.
